AIFS Summer Study Abroad in Rome, Italy
Italy
Term: Summer
Dates: June-July
Description:
Rome, the Eternal City with 2700 years of history, is unique in both Italy and the world. It is impossible not to be amazed and impressed by its classical and cultural heritage--from ancient monuments such as the Colosseum and the Roman Forum to the Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque churches and palaces built just a handful of centuries ago. With a population of more than four million, Rome is now a dynamic, modern city, with fascinating snapshots of history around every corner. Rome is also ideally positioned for exploring Italy, a country with one of Europe's richest pasts and some of its most beautiful scenery. AIFS students spend four weeks in Rome taking courses taught in English in art history, art, communications, and history, plus Italian language. Courses are offered through Richmond, The American International University in London, a U.S.-accredited university. AIFS program fees include the basics and the extras: tuition, housing, meals, London visit, excursions and cultural activities, airfare if selected, optional trip to Venice and more.
Highlights:
AIFS students live in apartments or as a paying guest in a private Italian home and receive meal vouchers that can be used at selected restaurants, cafes, and food stores. The Resident Director arranges optional visits to museums, art galleries, and monuments, and gives advice and provides information on planning weekend trips to such places as Tivoli, Ostia Antica, Giglio Island, and Assisi. Recreational options include theater, cinema, ballet, Italian cooking classes, wine tasting sessions, lectures, and parties with Italian students. The summer session begins with a 2-day London visit, and during the program there is an overnight trip to Florence, as well as optional excursions to Pompeii, Vesuvius, Naples, and Capri, as well as Venice.
