AIFS Study Abroad in Grenoble France, Intensive French Language Program
France
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: September - April (Academic Year), September to December (Fall Semester), January - April (Spring Semester)
Description:
The crystal-clear air and snow-capped mountains of the French Alps provide a picturesque setting in which to study. Grenoble is small enough to feel like a town but large enough to offer all the amenities of a busy city. Built on the banks of two alpine rivers, medieval buildings and cobbled streets give a romantic air to the older part of town, while museums, theaters, cultural festivals, cafés and bistros explain why Grenoble is the leading city in the region. AIFS students take an intensive French language course at the Centre Universitaire d'Etudes Francaises. The aim of the course is to develop both written and oral expression and comprehension by working on grammar and vocabulary while simultaneously learning about French life and culture. There is no language prerequisite for this program; students take a placement test on arrival to decide their appropriate language level. Fees include the basics and the extras: tuition, housing in a homestay, meals, cultural activities, excursions to Venice and Provence, airfare if selected, services of an on-site Resident Director, and more.
Highlights:
AIFS students live in homestays and receive breakfast and dinner, as well as meal vouchers for lunch at the University cafeteria. Cultural activities include walking tours of medieval Grenoble, a visit to the beautiful lake of Annecy, wine and cheese tastings, visits to the art museum, hikes, picnics, skiing, and a visit to the Chartreuse Monastery to taste the "elixir of life" from a recipe known to only three living monks. In the spring semester, the University ski club organizes ski excursions throughout the winter, including downhill and cross-country skiing. Students can also enroll in French cuisine and wine appreciation classes. During the semester there are excursions to Provence and Venice.
