AIFS Summer Study Abroad in Beijing, China
China
Term: Summer
Dates: June-July
Description:
Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China is the country's political, economic planning and cultural center, the focal point of its communications and home to around 16 million people. The eyes of the world will be upon Beijing for the 2008 Olympics starting on August 8 and reflecting China's increasing stature in the modern world. The city is famous for its huge Tiananmen Square and the Palace Museum, typically known as the Forbidden City, while the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China is within an hour reach. Students will have an opportunity to visit the famous Summer Palace and the fascinating Hutongs (villages) of old Beijing. Mandarin language study for Americans is rapidly growing in importance, and AIFS students study Mandarin language and Chinese cultural history at Beijing Language and Culture University. The program fee includes the basics and the extras: tuition, housing, meal allowance, round trip airfare if selected, cultural activities, and services of an on-site Resident Director.
Highlights:
Students live in on-campus residences and receive a meal allowance. AIFS organizes a variety of social and cultural activities during the program in Beijing, including visits to museums and sites in and around Beijing, such as the Palace Museum and the Great Wall. AIFS arranges guided excursions to Shanghai (on arrival) and Xian (during the program). An on-site Resident Director supervises all aspects of the program and acts as a liaison between students and the University.
