Combining a leading liberal arts, business or science education with hands-on experiences worldwide provides students with extraordinary learning opportunities that are relevant and unique. As first year university students, participants will not only gain invaluable insights into their world and their prospective careers, they will acquire uncommon confidence and strategic approaches to learning that are the foundations of successful and fulfilling career and lifestyle choices. West Island College International and Acadia University are pleased to offer, under the authority of the University's Distance Learning Department, a joint programme of studies for college and university applicants. Students applying to the university programme will join one of the College's tall ships for one or two semesters of study. The voyage will begin, each year, in Copenhagen on September 1. The journey, offering a myriad of engaging activities in over 25 ports of call worldwide, will take students through the Baltic, Western Europe, the Mediterranean and West Africa before engaging them in a two week humanitarian project in Senegal. Students may continue their adventure in a trans-Atlantic crossing to Natal, Brazil where second semester and full year students will continue their journey up the Amazon. Returning to sea, the crew, led by Acadia University faculty and a professional crew of eight will set a course for the Caribbean and North America, concluding this extraordinary adventure with a second trans-Atlantic crossing to the port of departure, Copenhagen. This incredible journey is, for any first year university candidate, a "passport to education".
