Description:
Since 1950, IES has been building quality study abroad programs and introducing U.S. students to new places, studies, and ways of thinking. A non-profit educational organization, IES offers high academic standards and extensive financial aid in almost 30 programs throughout the world. Beginning in Spring 2009, IES Cape Town will offer students the opportunity to explore the culture, social, and economical landscape of South Africa. The program acquaints all students with the history of South Africa through a required core course that investigates political, economic, religious, and social events from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. Students also choose an elective course that focuses on an important aspect of Environmental, Social/Economic, or Health Care/Community Development in South Africa and is linked to an internship, service project, or field research project.
Highlights:
* Attend IES courses focused on South African History, Environmental Management, Social and Economic Development, and Health Studies. * Enroll in courses at the University of Cape Town. * Gain important cultural insights and develop practical skills through an internship or service learning placement. * Explore exciting destinations such as Kruger National Park or the Garden Route. * Integrate into the local culture through apartment living.
