AIFS Summer in Cairns, Australia
Australia
Term: Summer
Dates: June-July
Description:
Beginning in Sydney, students will tour this vibrant and well-populated center for business, culture and the arts, visiting Sydney Opera House and taking a cruise on the magnificent Harbour. The next destination, Cairns in tropical North Queensland, is home to two World Heritage sites, the Great Barrier Reef and the tropical rainforest. Here students will gain unparalleled access to a variety of terrestrial and marine wildlife tourism sites, meeting the professionals who organize and deliver these attractions and learning about the environmental, cultural and financial concerns involved. Then it is on to the mountains and rainforest of the Atherton Tablelands where students will experience up close some of Australia's flora and fauna from a nature lodge in the middle of the jungle. The final destination is Undara in the sparsely populated Outback.
Highlights:
Australia is a diverse and fascinating country, a mix of cosmopolitan cities, beautiful beaches, mountains, tropical rainforest and rugged outback. Students will visit three distinct areas in order to gain an insight into the character and natural beauty of this vast country where iconic man-made sights such as Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge vie for attention with the natural wonders of the rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. Students spend four weeks taking a comprehensive survey of the varied Australian environment with specific focus on ecotourism.
