Description:
Focusing on children with special needs and children with non-Danish ethnic backgrounds, the courses investigate the Nordic concept of en god barndom (the good childhood) as practiced and implemented in Danish educational and childcare institutions. They will highlight Danish philosophy, theory and research as they relate to instructional practices in a Danish context. Topics such as social learning, egalitarianism and the team around the child will be elaborated through case studies. Session 1 is highly experiential, as you will spend some 40-50 hours of practicum in Danish preschool and school. Prerequisites: General DIS prerequisites Core Courses: "The Good Childhood: Special Needs and Multicultural Context Practicum" (Session 1) and "The Good Childhood: Special Needs and Multicultural Context Theory" (Session 2)
Highlights:
The program includes a one-week study tour in Denmark (preschools, schools and community sites) during the first session and a one-week Scandinavian study tour to Sweden & Finland (preschools, schools, community sites, Astrid Lindgren's World - Pippi Longstocking) during the second session.
