Description:
Denmark is well known for its commitment to areas such as alternative energy, energy conservation, public transportation, urban planning, and ecologically and socially sustainable architectural design. Through coursework and hands-on field visits around Scandinavia, the program offers a broad understanding of the links and tensions between environmental challenges and sustainable solutions, and a Scandinavian perspective on best practices within urban development and transportation, alternative energy sources and energy conservation, and waste management. Prerequisites: General DIS prerequisites Core Course: "Sustainable Development: Environmental, Political, and Social Issues," is an examination of the concepts and philosophies of sustainability. We will look at the roles of individuals, communities, business, and government in shaping sustainable development. Emphasis on Danish and European experiences and perspectives.
Highlights:
The program includes a short study tour in Denmark (companies, NGOs, power plants, and regional authorities) and a longer European study tour to Britain- which is at the forefront of sustainability initiatives and is currently building the world's largest windmill park at sea.

Scholarships are Available. The DIS Board of Directors has allocated scholarship funds to help you afford to study in Denmark. Scholarships consist of grants in the range of USD 1,000 - 2,000 per semester, plus a small number of USD 3,000 and 4,000 grants. Summer scholarships range from USD 300 - 1000 depending on your program selection. All scholarships are awarded based on financial need.
