Description:
Join the next generation of filmmakers and actors at one of the most innovative and dynamic film schools and acting schools in the world. New York Film Academy offers intensive, hands-on Filmmaking, Screenwriting, Digital Video, Computer Animation, and Acting For Film Programs. Every course and workshop curriculum at our film school stems from our philosophy of "learning by doing." Some of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers and stars have chosen to send their sons and daughters to the film schools and acting schools of the New York Film Academy including Steven Spielberg, Susan Sarandon, and Kevin Kline to name a few. Yet, some of the best projects to come out of the New York Film Academy are from students with no connections to the industry. An extraordinarily eclectic group of students attend our film schools from all over the world. Students develop an invaluable network of classmates that often provide opportunities for future work in the film industry. No film school can match the Academy's bi-coastal campuses in the heart of New York City and on the back lot of Universal Studios in Hollywood, as well as our many international locations. The Academy maintains the largest inventory of cameras, lights, and editing stations of any film school in the world resulting in unparalled access to film equipment for our film school `students.
Highlights:
* Florence Florence, full of inspirational history and culture, is a captivating backdrop for any film. Often called the cradle of the Renaissance, Florence's ideas of beauty through architecture have had a worldwide impact, and the city has an impressive artistic legacy, having been the home of such distinguished artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. For several hundred years it has served as a center of artistic excellence. The bustling activity of Florence's central market helps give the city its vitality. The city is small but remarkably beautiful. Within the city's limits, sprawled on either side of the river Arno, a visitor can wander from the Cathedral to the famous Uffizi gallery. Mostly pedestrianized, walking is a pleasant way to visit most destinations, and the narrow Mediterranean-styled streets and piazzas are full of locations for film shoots. Facilities The New York Film Academy has been invited by the government of Tuscany to hold our program in a renovated renaissance era building in the center of the city, moments away from the Duomo itself. We feel it's the perfect place to learn the art and craft of filmmaking. * Sardinia New York Film Academy students at the Sardinia Workshop will be immersed in the ever growing field of High-Definition digital filmmaking. They will get the opportunity to explore the many different formats currently available in this exciting new medium. Students will learn the HD workflow from camera operation to digital editing and output as they shoot their short films on HD. Students in the 4-Week HD Filmmaking Workshop are taught the language of filmmaking and the director's craft as applied to the HD format. Instead of being handed a book, our students begin to learn how to write, shoot and edit their own projects from their very first day of class onwards. Aspects of mise-en-scene, visual storytelling, continuity-style coverage, documentary filmmaking, directing actors and writing visually will be essential to the director's palette. Hands-On Digital Camera and Lighting Classes will help students master the medium including white balance, shutter speed, focus, video latitude, gels, and filters. Each student in the 4-Week HD Filmmaking Workshop directs three projects of increasing complexity. For each of these projects, the student will have to go through the process of writing, producing, directing and editing. The first film, shot at the end of week one, focuses on the art of the shot; the second, shot at the end of week two, on continuity and the conventions of the film craft. The last of the projects, shot at the end of week three, can be a documentary or narrative film of up to 7 minutes with a soundtrack. In addition to their directing opportunities, filmmaking students rotate among the key crew positions (director of photography, assistant camera person, and gaffer/grip) on their classmates' projects, which will give them the greatest understanding of the functions of the various departments. Week four of the digital filmmaking program is comprised of additional editing classes and post-production. All films will be shot on HD with Lowel lighting packages, and edited on Apple Final Cut Pro digital editing systems. Students work in three to four person crews to complete each film. Every student directs two films. When their colleagues direct, students rotate among the key crew positions. At the end of the course, the final films are celebrated in a screening open to cast, crew, friends and family. All students who successfully complete the workshop will receive a New York Film Academy Diploma and a DVD copy of their film *Continuity is one of the fundamental principles of modern filmmaking. Students are challenged to make a film that maintains continuity in Story, time and space. Primary language of instruction in the Sardinia Workshop is Italian. * Milan The Fashion Capital of the World Located in the plains of Lombardy, it is a city at once steeped deep in tradition and at the cutting edge of modern culture. Widely recognized as the fashion capital of the world, Milan is a bustling and modern city full of excitement and history. The Lombardy area is known for it's wide variety of shops and is home to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in the Piazza Duomo, said to be the world's first and oldest shopping mall. While revered for it's design and fashion, Milan is the media center of Italy and is also home to many other important cultural and historical landmarks including la Borsa Italiana (the seat of the Italian Stock Exchange), The Castello Sforzesco, the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (home of Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper) and the famous Teatro alla Scala di Milano Opera House. We are grateful for the efforts of of Italian movie-star, Edoardo Costa (see him in the upcoming Die Hard 4), for bringing the New York Film Academy to Milan. Extra-Curricular Activities After immersing yourself in culture and landmarks, you can enjoy live music and entertainment in the Navigli district near the Bocconi University; or take in one of the many fashion fairs offered annually in the chic Fiera district. There is also plenty to do in Milan for the sports fanatic. Home to the Alfa Romeo, Milan is near the Monza Formula One racing circuit, one of the world's oldest car racing circuits. Milan is also home to two world famous football teams (A.C. Milan and Internazionale), one of the most important basketball teams in Italy (Olimpia Milano), the Rhinos Milano American Football Club and the Amatori Rugby Milano team. Of course, Milan is also home of the Piazza Duomo, the third largest Christian church in the world comprised of immense pillars, beautiful vaults and arches enhanced by natural light for a truly breathtaking sight. Students should explore the Lago di Como, the third largest lake in Italy, by ferry for unforgettable views. New York Film Academy students from all over the world, will thrive on the high energy, elegance and culture of Milan as they make their own films or act in them.

New York Film Academy's Mission Statement: The New York Film Academy was founded in 1992 at Robert DeNiro's Tribeca Film Center and has since expanded into a global educational force in filmmaking and acting for film. The Academy was founded on a belief that a top quality education in filmmaking should be accessible to anyone with the drive and passion to make films. The New York Film Academy was designed for a new generation of filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, producers, and animators who share a passion for motion pictures and want to learn by making their own projects in a hands-on, intensive program. The many different programs of the New York Film Academy share a philosophy that balances in-class instruction by award-winning filmmakers with an intense exploration of the medium through practical, hands-on work.
