Description: This program is designed to add a study abroad dimension to Florida State University's baccalaureate and master's degree programs in international affairs. The program offers two sessions, one in the summer and one in the fall.

The summer session offers an exciting opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students who wish to integrate an overseas study experience into their International Affairs and/or political science curriculum, and it is particularly appropriate for students who are considering law school. During the summer session, this International Affairs program utilizes locations in London and another European city to study issues of international human rights law.

An excursion to the continent may include briefings at diplomatic, European Union or international judicial institutions. In addition to classroom meetings, students benefit from planned activities in London, such as visits to the House of Commons, including meetings with a Member of Parliament; a Legal London Walking Tour; a visit to Old Bailey, including a visit with barristers in their chambers, various guest lectures and visits to offices of international organizations.

The fall session is designed primarily for graduate students in International Affairs, although undergraduate students are encouraged to participate as well. The fall program may be especially attractive to those undergraduate students who are either considering a master's degree in International Affairs or who already qualify to take graduate courses. The courses offered during the fall term have both graduate and undergraduate equivalents. Courses focus on current issues of European politics such as the European Union and ethnic conflict.

Students have the opportunity to meet with people engaged in policy making within the global arena. In addition to the formal course work, the curriculum includes briefings with officials associated with foreign affairs. In London, these may include meetings with members of Parliament, briefings at the Bank of England concerning possible participation in the European single currency, sessions at the American Embassy, guest speakers from London universities, and representatives of multinational corporations operating in the United Kingdom. A two-day excursion to the continent offers students the chance to analyze diplomatic, NATO, European Union and/or Human Rights organizations. The London Study Centre's group trip to Paris may also allow students in the International Affairs program the opportunity to attend briefings at several important institutions, such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and UNESCO Headquarters.
