CIS - University of Auckland Winter Program
New Zealand
Term: Winter
Dates: early January - mid-Febuary
Description:
While it's winter in the US it's summer "down under" in New Zealand! Spend six weeks studying at the University of Auckland Summer School, choosing from hundreds of classes, and exploring and enjoying New Zealand's largest city. You will be taken by the awesome beauty of the island nation as well as the unique culture which blends Maori, European and Asian ethnicities, customs and foods. Established in 1883, the University of Auckland is one of New Zealand's oldest and largest universities and is not only the country's leading research institution, but among the top research universities in the world. The University of Auckland Summer School is housed at the City Campus which is set on park-like grounds near the center of the cosmopolitan city of Auckland. This makes it a haven from the city's center, while allowing you to take full advantage of its urban setting.
Highlights:
The six week University of Auckland Summer School program offers courses that are delivered using a short intensive teaching format. You will be able to choose courses from over 30 academic areas. Your selection will include many introductory-level subjects that make interesting electives as well as upper level courses. Unlike many other short term study abroad programs, Auckland's program is integrated so that you will have the opportunity to study with New Zealand students as well as other international students, not just other Americans. Apart from the usual facilities you would expect on campus (a world-class library, computer labs, etc.) you will also find cafes, pubs, the University Recreation Center, hair salon, post office, travel agency, health center, book and computer stores, and a weekly campus market. CIS students attending Auckland are housed in either residence halls or shared apartments. All accommodations are equipped with furniture and are located within close proximity to grocery stores, shops and cafes. Auckland, with a population of 1.2 million, is located in the north of New Zealand's North Island. Known as the "City of Sails," New Zealand's largest city is broken down into small "villages," and everyone lives within a half hour of some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, hiking trails, and surrounding islands. During New Zealand's summer (December February) you can expect Auckland to be alive with festivals and regattas in warm, sunny weather.
