The Grand Tour
Description:
See for yourself! Study some of Europe's most famous works of art up close and in person. The first part of the program is the Grand Tour of Europe where students visit the greatest art capitals of the western world including London, Paris, Berlin, Venice, Florence, and Rome. The second part of the program is comprised of web-based assignments which are due after returning from your European adventure. On April 30 the students begin their on-site European study in London, where they view works in the National Gallery, the British Museum, and the Tate Modern. Possible excursions may include visits to Stonehenge and Salisbury, as well as tours of other significant sites in London including Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Church. From London, students travel by train to Paris where they visit such famous museums as the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay. Excursions include day trips to Versailles and Monet's home at Giverny. From Paris, the students travel through the rest of Europe in the comfort of their own coach. Eastern European stops include Cologne, Berlin, Krakow, Auschwitz, and the Alps. In each city the academic focus is on the region's unique art and culture. From the Alps, the program continues in Italy, where students explore the world-famous museums of Venice, Florence, and Rome. Included is a day-trip to the beautiful and haunting ancient Roman site of Pompeii.
