England
- Yorkshire & the Humber:
York
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: fall, or spring or full academic year
Description:
The Yorkshire Program offers liberal arts students in a wide range of disciplines, including Art, Theatre and Music the opportunity to work in their major area and also complete distribution and other requirements. Students enroll in three courses, or modules, from departments in the college. Mix and match to find the set of modules that works best for your own academic career--and best fits your goals for study abroad. Rooted in the liberal arts tradition, The Yorkshire Program welcomes students from a wide range of majors. Participants are quickly integrated into life at York St. John. Extensive pre-departure counseling and on-site orientation ensure that each participant is ready to take their place in the university community. Participants enroll in regular University courses alongside traditional three-year students. They live in university accommodations, dispersed among local students from across the U.K. and international students from around the world. Each participant will be housed in a single room and may select either a self-catering flat with a shared kitchen, or a traditional hall with meals provided. Yorkshire Program participants regularly participate in the full range of student clubs and sport activities as well as cultural, religious and musical groups on campus and in the larger community. All full-time undergraduate students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities are welcome to apply. Admission is competitive, and a 2.80 GPA is required. There is an appeal process for students who fall just below the g.p.a. requirement.
Highlights:
The U.K. Explorer Kit, unique to The Yorkshire Program, gives each participant the opportunity to create their own day and weekend trips. Each program participant receives a set of memberships and discount cards that provide substantial savings on travel, lodging and admissions, a set of day and weekend trip planning sheets for various sights around Great Britain and more. Go where you want, when you want. Excursions and Travel The York St. John Study Abroad Office organizes a programme of social events including off-campus trips.
