The Scotland Program at the University of Aberdeen
Scotland
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: fall, spring and full year options
Description:
For over forty years, The Scotland Program at the University of Aberdeen has provided individualized study-abroad experiences for students from U.S. colleges and universities. Rooted in the liberal arts tradition, The Scotland Program welcomes students from a wide range of majors. Participants are quickly integrated into life at the University of Aberdeen. Extensive pre-departure counseling and on-site orientation ensure that each participant is ready to take their place in the university community. Participants enroll in regular University of Aberdeen courses alongside traditional four-year students. They live in university accommodations, dispersed among Scottish and international students from around the world. Each participant will be housed in a single room and may select either a self-catering flat with a shared kitchen, or a traditional hall with meals provided. Scotland Program participants regularly participate in the full range of student clubs and sport activities as well as cultural, religious and musical groups on campus and in the larger community. All full-time undergraduate students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities are welcome to apply. Admission is competitive, and a 3.0 GPA is required. There is an appeal process for students who fall just below the gpa requirement.
Highlights:
Students from a wide range of majors, including the sciences, English, history, religion, philosophy, psychology, business, politics and economics have found that spending a term at the University of Aberdeen has enriched their academic experience. The pre-professional disciplines including medicine, engineering, teaching, law and nursing are well served in Aberdeen. Science majors are particularly welcomed. Courses at all levels of biology, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics and physics are open to qualified visiting students. The Scotland Program Highland Excursion is an unforgettable exploration of the history, culture and natural beauty of Scotland. The trip includes stops at such places as Culloden Moor, Loch Ness, Glen Coe, Loch Tay, Glen Finnan and much more. The cost of the trip is included in the program fee. The program hosts a Thanksgiving dinner in November for the fall group and a special castle and countryside day trip in early February for spring term program participants. The Explore Scotland Kit, unique to The Scotland Program, gives each participant the opportunity to create their own day and weekend trips. Each program participant receives a set of memberships and discount cards that provide substantial savings on travel, lodging and admissions, a set of day and weekend trip planning sheets for various sights around Scotland and more.
