Description: Our program provides a semester or full academic year of study in association with one of England's outstanding universities, the University of Reading located just 40 miles west of London.

The centerpiece of the academic program is an interdisciplinary seminar entitled "The World in Britain" that all students take. The seminar gives you the context for many things that you will see and do while in England through a survey of the principal social, political, and cultural developments during the periods 1485-1750 (fall semester) and 1750 to the present (spring semester). You will learn about the ways in which Britain has shaped the wider world and has in turn been shaped by it.

Some courses feature the tutorial style of teaching similar to that used at Oxford and Cambridge, while others (especially in the sciences) are traditional lecture courses. Students earn a minimum of 15 semester hours each semester. Our director lives nearby. He and his staff are available 24/7 to make sure that each student has a successful academic and social experience.

Highlights: Randolph College owns three charming houses in a lovely neighborhood right across the street from the University of Reading. Students have the option of taking their meals at a University hall of residence or may cook for themselves in the house kitchens.

Our students are full members of the Reading University Students' Union and are encouraged to participate in clubs and organizations, including sports. In past years, our students have secured places on the novice rowing team, the equestrian team, and the basketball team, to name just a few.

A four-week vacation following the fall semester and the period following the spring semester enable students to explore the UK and the Continent. Some students have even made it to North Africa! Most destinations in London are one hour away, door-to-door. Frequent fast rail service from Reading takes you to Paddington Station in 22 minutes.

Scholarships are Available. -  generous need-based grants (up to $7,712 per semester for 2009-2010) are available from Randolph College. We also offer merit-based academic scholarships and can help students arrange for loans. Virginia residents currently attending private colleges in the State can transfer their TAG grants to our program.
