Cambridge Summer Program
England
Term: Summer
Dates: July 10 to August 18
Description:
The University of New Hampshire (UNH) Cambridge Summer Program, located at Gonville and Caius College (one of the oldest colleges at Cambridge University), offers its twenty-eighth annual session in 2006. Students take two courses; make excursions every weekend to sites throughout the United Kingdom; attend several Shakespeare plays; enjoy traditional banquets "in Hall;" explore historic Cambridge with it's museums, gardens, and shops; hear concerts and lectures; and still find time to relax and socialize with fellow students and professors from Cambridge University and UNH. All of the classes are specifically concerned with British studies. Among the core courses offered are history of the British monarchy, history of science at Cambridge University, Shakespeare in performance and the plays of Shakespeare's contemporaries, studies of 19th and 20th century literature and their authors, and early twentieth-century poetry. The writing component has included poetry, fiction, and travel writing.
Highlights:
The program offers challenging courses taught by Cambridge University and UNH professors, fine theatre, day-trips and excursions in England and Scotland, lectures, speaker series, intellectual community among teachers and students, banquets and socializing in traditional British style.
