Description:
Students explore the social welfare state in Norway and other Scandinavian countries, how it has developed, how society's needs are addressed, and challenges for the future. Courses, taught in English, are interconnected and include focus on sustainable development, global issues, art and literature. Students may also choose either intensive Norwegian language study or an Independent Study Project. Housing is in a student village near the University of Oslo campus.

Students across the social sciences seeking an English-language program in a non-traditional setting are invited to enroll in the 'Scandinavian Urban Studies Term' Fall semester program, based in Oslo, Norway. Housing is in a student village near the University of Oslo campus. A highlight is a field trip to Stockholm, Sweden and Tallinn, Estonia; plus two weekend homestays in other parts of Norway. Courses include lots of time outside of the classroom in large and small group field experiences.

Cost Include Description:
The semester program fee for Fall 2000 is $10,450. (Students from HECUA member schools receive a $500 discount, for a program fee of $9,950). The fee covers tuition, lodging, food stipend and all field travel ground expenses. Excludes international and field trip airfare, books, passport and personal expenses. Financial aid may be used for the program, to be arranged with your financial aid or study abroad office.
