IFSA-Butler at Oxford University
England
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: TBA
Description:
As a Visiting Student at one of nine Oxford Colleges (Hertford College, Keble College, Lady Margaret Hall, Mansfield College, St. Anne's College, St. Catherine's College, St. Edmund Hall, Corpus Christi College and Worcester College), you will be registered as a full member of both Oxford University and the College you attend. As a Visiting Student, you will enjoy all the privileges and amenities of both the University and College, including the College Library, Bodleian Library and appropriate Faculty libraries. In addition to membership in the College Junior Common Room, you will have full access to the College and University social, sports and recreational facilities. With the exception of varsity athletics, you will be welcome to participate in the student societies and activities of your choice. Most importantly, Visiting Students are instructed through the traditional Oxford tutorials. You will be under the general aegis of the Tutor for Visiting Students, a Fellow of your College who will be available to provide guidance on both academic and personal matters. As a Visiting Student, you are taught and assessed in the identical way as the degree-seeking Oxford undergraduates. The only difference is that you will not be receiving your degree from Oxford University.
Highlights:
The Oxford University Visiting Student program is competitive. Students considering application to an Oxford college should have a solid academic background, a clear academic focus and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4. Admissions are rolling and all admissions decisions are made by tutors at the individual Oxford colleges. Students are encouraged to apply before the deadlines, which are January 15 for fall and academic year applications and October 1 for spring applications. The exception is St. Catherine's College, which has an April 15 deadline for fall and year applications. Students have been coming to study in Oxford for over 800 years, and the University of Oxford has grown incrementally from these ancient roots. Its colleges, libraries and lecture halls lie scattered throughout the city, side by side with the shops, churches, and houses that make up the central portion of Oxford. The University itself is comprised of 42 member colleges and halls of various sizes and ages. Each of these institutions is separate and distinct and will seem small by American standards. Few of the colleges have more than 500 undergraduates. However, the total student body at Oxford University is now over 14,500.
