IFSA-Butler at the University of Nottingham
England
- East Midlands:
Nottingham
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: August-June
Description:
The Institute for Study Abroad is proud to have a program with one of the most popular universities in England, the University of Nottingham. Since Medieval times Nottingham has been famous for its association with the legendary Robin Hood. In fact, just north of Nottingham still remains a few tracts of Sherwood Forest, now a popular picnic spot for visitors. Also found in this area are the regal houses and estates known as the Dukeries. Nottingham is located in the heart of England. Therefore, traveling all around the United Kingdom is quite easy. A thriving and cosmopolitan city, Nottingham is the host of several industrial giants. For example, Raleigh bicycles and Boots Pharmaceuticals are based here. With industry comes great prosperity and many interesting opportunities for students. Travelers will find that the city has a large number of quaint shops and lovely cathedrals. Despite enormous growth since the late 18th century the city center still has a number of lovely old buildings. Among them are Georgian townhouses and the beautiful 15th century church of St. Mary's on High Pavement. Several of the city's picturesque pubs have medieval origins. In fact, students have been known to frequent The Flying Horse on the Poultry, the Bell Inn on Angel Row, and the Salutation Inn, among others.
