IFSA-Butler at Lancaster University

  England
  • North West England:
  • Lancaster

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: TBA

Description: Lancaster University is located near the heart of the United Kingdom's Lake District. This area provides a beautiful, lush background for throngs of visitors from around the world. In fact, the District is widely known as one of the most breathtaking tourist attractions in England.

While there are several lakes in the region, the District is host to England's largest lake, Lake Windermere. The locale provides ample opportunity for countless leisure activities. Sailing, scuba diving, canoeing, and fishing are among the most popular pastimes in the region. Hill walking is an extremely popular pursuit, as well. A sojourner can go on a short low-level stroll or might opt for a more demanding all-day excursion.

If your inclinations do not lean toward sporting ventures, you might choose to visit some of the District's more unusual museums. Whether your passion is steamboats or toys, museums abound. In addition, the environment has proven to be inspirational to various poets, novelists, and artists. For example, Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth wrote their great works in the area. Their former homes are opened to the public.

Highlights: Students applying to IFSA-Butler programs in the U.K. will have the opportunity to live and study in some of the most renowned and respected institutions in the world. A serious and dedicated academic environment awaits those who wish to experience these challenging and rewarding programs.

The long history of university education in the United Kingdom dates back to the foundation of Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the mid 13th century. Students who attend university in the U.K. have the opportunity to mix with international students from every country on earth who came to the U.K. to experience the same scholastic prestige.

The academic year in the United Kingdom runs along roughly the same guidelines as the American academic year. It begins in late September and ends in mid-June. Teaching terms usually consist of three, ten-week periods separated by two four-week breaks, but increasing numbers of universities have switched over to the semester system.
