Description: Beijing, the monumental capital of modern China, is a magnet for international business and investment. While its new high-rises and financial institutions testify to its booming economy, remnants of Old Beijing remain. Streets lined with dumpling and noodle stands, beautiful parks bedecked with pagodas, and 19th century homes with graceful four-walled courtyards still charm visitors from around the world.

Beijing is a city of contrasts - a modern Asian boom-town that strives to preserve the cultural landscape of its glorious past while all around the glass and steel emblems of its dynamic present flourish. As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing attracts people from all over the country, and IES Beijing students are exposed to a variety of regional variations of Mandarin Chinese, as well as to the current events shaping modern China. Destined to be the heart of the world's largest economy in the 21st century, Beijing is the place to be.

With small classes, a high-quality language curriculum, and daily tutorials, the IES Beijing Intensive Language Program offers students who have already begun Chinese language studies the opportunity to rapidly expand their knowledge of spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. Students round out their schedule with a selection of area studies courses taught in English, in addition to travel to remote locations in China and the option of a for-credit internship.
