Spanish Study & Cultural Immersion in Guadalajara

Highlights: The "Pearl of the West" is the affectionate name that the local residents have for Mexico's second largest city, Guadalajara.

Located in the west-central part of the country in the state of Jalisco, this beautiful colonial city of 5 million people, sits on a high plateau more than 5,000 feet above sea level. Guadalajara was established in 1530, just 38 years after Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas and is also known as the "City of the Roses".

The historic part of the city is located in the heart of the city is surrounded by six different plazas. These plazas are a great place to relax, walk or watch people stroll by. You would never know that you are in a city of 5 million people when you are walking through these plazas.

Many of the streets are cobblestone and lined with street vendors selling their local handmade goods. The city is very cosmopolitan has beautiful tree-lined boulevards, many parks and pockets of beautifully preserved historic sites that range from ancient ruins to colonial mansions and Churrigueresque architecture.
