Imagine being able to travel and see the world as part of your university studies! Bond University's Australian Experience study programs introduce students to the ecology, people, history and culture of this diverse and fascinating country. Presented as a combination of classroom and fieldwork, our four-week and six-week study programs are designed especially for overseas students to give you in-depth theoretical understanding of the Australian way of life, reinforced by the experience of being exposed to famous cultural, historical and ecological locations throughout Australia.
Highlights:
Four Week Program July 19th to August 15th 2009 The focus of the program will be on learning by experience. Field trips will have seminar and supervised assignment components which will be held in key locations along the Australian East-Coast. Exploring the Queensland coast The areas not far to the north, south and west of the Gold Coast are not only world-renowned destinations for surfers and tourists seeking sun, sand and nightlife. This region is also home to magnificent natural resources and forest and marine parks. We will visit several of these as part of our studies of environmental and ecological issues. A highlight of this program will be some days spent on Heron Island, a coral cay which is part of Queensland's famous Great Barrier Reef. Expert staff will introduce us the life of a coral reef, and we will have ample opportunity to see the wonders of the fringing reefs around Heron close-up with snorkel and face mask. The coastal emphasis continues with a trip to Hervey Bay and the World Heritage listed Fraser Island. We'll stay in comfortable cabins on the world's largest sand island and take daily four wheel drive expeditions under the expert guidance of local rangers to explore the ecology of this unique environment. We will take a day's boat trip on Hervey Bay to take a close look at migrating whales which gather here each year, often with new calves, on their annual southerly migration. Six Week Program June 7th to July 18th 2009 The focus of the program will be on learning by experience. Field trips will have seminar and supervised assignment components which will be held in art galleries, museums and other institutions visited as part of this program. Darwin & the red centre The program travels to the Northern Territory, flying to Darwin, Australia's most northerly capital city. Focussing on the environmental and ecological issues, we will explore the city, with classes in the nearby Territory Wildlife Park and Litchfield National Park. Australia's most famous train - The Ghan - will take us to Alice Springs via Katherine Gorge, one of several beautiful sites we will visit that have spiritual significance for Australia's Aboriginal people. In the 'red centre' of the Territory's desert regions, we will study the amazing variety of fauna and flora which flourishes here and learn first-hand about the life of indigenous Australians who have inhabited these lands for tens of thousands of years. We will visit Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Watarrka (Kings Canyon). We then return to classes on the Gold Coast. Canberra & Sydney Fly to the national capital, Canberra, and start with a city tour and check out some of the main embassy buildings, including that of the United States. During our week in Canberra, we will attend several presentations and guided tours to the national Parliament buildings, National Museum of Australia, the Australian War memorial and the National Film and Sound Archives. There will also be some time to pursue your own project and assignment work and to socialise with students in residence at the Australian National University. Travelling through some of the oldest and richest farming country in New South Wales, we head to Sydney for four days in Australia's oldest City. Our explorations include the historic remains of the early convict era, the Australian art collections in the art gallery of NSW and, of course, the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
