French and European Studies: Pau, France - USAC
France
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: Fall: September - December, Spring: January - April, Summer: May - June, June - July
Description:
The program at the University of Pau offers an extraordinary opportunity to study the French language intensively and to experience student life at a French university. In addition to elementary, intermediate, or advanced French, you can choose elective courses in literature, political science, journalism, natural history, French cuisine, culture, and art history taught in English or in French. Located in southwestern France in the Atlantic Pyrenees, Pau is a provincial capital that is small enough to have everything within walking or biking distance but large enough to offer theaters, outdoor cafes, and beautiful shops. As a USAC student you can take part in the extracurricular activities at the university, for example choosing between tennis, swimming, folkdance, rugby, yoga, karate, or handball. Field trips to surrounding areas are included, and an optional tour of Paris is available. The summer Pau program offers one five-week session in June and one four-week session in July, and an optional tour of Paris. You may participate in one or both of the sessions.
Highlights:
This program offers intensive language study - up to two years of university language courses may be taken in one semester. In addition to opening an academic window on the French people, this program introduces you to the rich cultural diversity of France through field trips to Paris and Versailles (optional), as well as Bearn, and the Basque country. Furthermore, most USAC students opt to board with families. Others opt to live in the student residence halls or in apartments. These housing options, particularly the home stays, give you the chance to know local people, learn more about French culture, and practice your language skills.
