Intrax Study Abroad: Semester in Sweden

  Sweden
    Stockholm,  Uppsala

Term: Fall, Spring
Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Dates: Fall Semester (Aug - Jan); Spring Semester (Jan - June)

Description: Intrax Study Abroad: Explore Sweden!

From the mountains in the north to the more than 20,000 islands of the Archipelago you are bound to discover something new and wonderful about Sweden.   Learn about Sweden's majestic history and royal family, visit museums and participate in one of the country's prominent sports such as skiing or tennis!

Students who choose a semester program in Sweden will live with a host family and attend a local public high school.

Learn:

Swedish students attend three years of high school, beginning at the age of 15. The school year is divided into two semesters, and students can tailor their schedules toward various majors. Most students who wish to continue their studies in a university choose to focus on economics, natural sciences, social sciences, or technology. Typically, Swedish students take different classes each day. You will be expected to do quite a bit of independent preparation for your classes so that you may take part in the class discussions. Intrax students studying at a local Swedish high school will take course subjects that include: language and literature, mathematics, geography, science, history, music and art.

While no previous language study is required, we strongly suggest that students prepare by learning some basic phrases in Swedish, as all classes will be taught in Swedish.

Why learn Swedish? 8.9 million Swedes speak Swedish, as well as some 350,000 people in Finland. Swedish is very similar to Danish and Norwegian. If you speak Swedish, you could communicate with about 18 million people in some of the world's most developed nations!

Program Requirements:

*No language requirement.
*15-18 years old.
*Motivated students with a 2.5 GPA or higher on a 4 point scale.
*Mature, flexible, open-minded, and able to adapt to living with a host family.
*Eager for the academic challenge of studying in a foreign school.
*US Citizen/Resident- living in the US.

Application Deadline: March 31, 2007
