CIEE Winter Intensive Language and Culture Program in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Description:
The goals of the Intensive Language and Culture program are to develop a higher level of Portuguese language fluency and critical appreciation of Brazilian life and society. This is achieved through the academic program and immersion activities including the home-stay and cultural activities through the city and stae of Sao Paulo. Academic Program This 4-or-5 week program, established in 1989, offers students an opportunity to focus intensively on Portuguese language acquisition and critically study contemporary Brazilian life and society. The program is ideal for students interested in Latin America who want to become familiar with the language and culture of one of the most important countries in the region. Academic Culture Class size is small and includes both lectures and excursions. Classes are held at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. All instruction is by native Brazilians, and efforts are made to integrate the program participants with Brazilian students.

Culture Cultural Activities and Field Trips The program includes many visits to sites of historic and cultural importance within the city of São Paulo accompanied by professors and/or Brazilian estudantes de apoio (student helpers). The program also includes an educational field trip to Parati, a colonial town on the coast of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

Cost Include Description:
The CIEE fee for 2010-11 includes an optional on-site meet and greet, full-time leadership and support, tuition, housing, two meals daily, orientation, cultural activities (concerts, festivals, group meals, performances), local excursions (such as museum visits, community service project visits), one weekend field trip, admission fees to host university events, comprehensive student handbook, pre-departure advising, and a CIEE iNext travel card which provides insurance and other travel benefits.
