Australia
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Feb-June and/or July-Nov
Description:
The University of Melbourne has welcomed study abroad students from countries around the world for many years. We highly value the diversity of thought and culture that you bring to us, and we trust you will develop both academically and personally from your experiences here. The University of Melbourne is Australia's second oldest university, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2003. Today it is ranked equal first in among Australian universities and 19th in the world (according to the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, 2004, and the Times Higher Education Supplement, UK , 2005, respectively). All teaching and learning activities are driven by the research-intensive culture of the University, providing all students with curricula informed by cutting-edge research developments. High achieving students are attracted to this dynamic and creative learning environment. The result is that most courses have the highest entry level in Australia. One of advantages of studying abroad at the University of Melbourne is the campus location. The campus is spacious, green, and leafy, yet it is still located within walking distance to downtown Melbourne. The campus is a unique blend of traditional and contemporary architecture and culture providing a particular life and ambience of its own. Beyond the exceptional lecture theatres, classrooms, and libraries, it offers you a range of galleries, theatre and entertainment venues, bookshops, retail stores, cafes, and restaurants. The Economist Intelligence Unit ( London ) has consistently ranked Melbourne as the world's most livable city. This ranking is based on celebrating diversity and multiculturalism and welcoming newcomers to a safe environment, clean air, numerous public parks and gardens, and many major cultural and sporting events throughout the year.
Highlights:
Taking part in the University's extensive range of extra-curricular activities is an excellent way to become involved in student culture and meet other students from a wide range of backgrounds. Clubs and societies: African Drumming, Chocolate Lovers' Society, and Bushwalking are just three of over 120 clubs and societies available for you to join at the University of Melbourne. In addition, the International Student Outdoor Program allows you to explore some of the most beautiful and exciting areas of Victoria and Australia at budget rates. Day, weekend and extended trips are organized to places such as the Great Ocean Road, Great Barrier Reef, and central Australia. Programs include surfing, swimming with dolphins, rock climbing, and caving.
