The European Politics & Society program is designed for students majoring in political science, international studies, international relations, or related fields. It offers you: * A solid knowledge of the European Union (EU), its institutions, governance, policies, and integrative significance * Theoretical and hands-on insights into the processes that shape European politics and politics in general * An understanding of Europe's position and aspirations in global politics * A European-based understanding of topical political and social issues, such as security, terrorism, migration, environmental protection, and social welfare * Sharpened academic skills such as critical thinking, analytical writing, research, argumentation and negotiation, obtained through oral as well as written assignments and simulation games * Enhanced intercultural competence through cultural education, interaction, and reflection Students enrolled in the European Politics & Society program can choose one of two tracks: "European Politics" or "Justice and Human Rights", and participate in the two course-integrated study tours. Beyond the core course, students are free to choose any combination of elective courses from the DIS curriculum barring scheduling conflicts.
Highlights:
Study tours include a short regional study tour to Denmark and/or northern Germany, and a longer European study tour. Students in the European Politics track will go to Brussels featuring visits to political, economic, legal, military and EU-related institutions in the countries visited. Students in the Justice and Human Rights track will go to the Balkans, the scene of the Yugoslavian civil wars and their accompanying atrocities of the 1990s. Additionally, all courses include regional field study visits to Danish government and parliamentary bodies, EU agencies, special interest groups, defense institutions, and foreign embassies plus guest lectures by experts from academia and the political community.
