This program is designed to give musicians and non-musicians an introduction to the music and culture of Latin America. Buenos Aires is one of the largest Latin American cities, with a vibrant cultural life. The music scene is particularly lively in the city, with the best tango shows anywhere, really active rock and roll (in Spanish), folk and tropical movements, and some fo the best Opera performances in the world at the renowned Teotro Colon. Students will experience the music directly, interact with performers and composers, developing relationships and exchanging views and perspectives, not exclusively about music but rather about the culture at large. Music 127 OR Spanish 171 (4 units) Music from Latin America Examination of music from Latin America. Characteristic music (i.e. tango, bossa nova, salsa, musica motena, musica andina) as well as its implications in othermusical genres. Taught in Spanish. Fees for Summer Abroad are comprised of the Summer Abroad Program Fee, Course Unit Fee, and Accommodation and Activities Fee. The Accommodation and Activities Fee includes lodging, select meals, and select field trips. The program fee covers group health insurance and printed matter. Air fare is not included.
