Study in Denmark, Copenhagen
Denmark
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Fall: Late August - Late January; Spring: Early February - Late June; AY: Late August - Late June
Description:
This university exchange program enables UW students and/or Wisconsin Residents to directly enroll at Kobenhavns Universitet, founded in 1479. This university has approximately 33,000 enrolled students in six faculties and is the country's largest and oldest research and education institution. Students will select courses from a variety of disciplines and receive tailored language instruction bases on individual skills. As one past participant said, "Copenhagen is an incredibly beautiful city and is so diverse that any type of person could find a niche for themselves." Students will benefit from local support in the form of an assigned mentor, assistance in finding affordable housing, and advising on academic and day-to-day concerns.
Highlights:
Today Copenhagen is the commercial and cultural center of Denmark. Students enjoy many impressive sights such as the National Museum and the Christansborg Palace. Participants can take advantage of many cultural opportunities, including drama productions and international jazz and rock festivals, as well as exploring Stroget - the world's longest pedestrian street - with scores of shops, boutiques, restaurants, galleries, and department stores. Not only is Copenhagen the capital of Denmark, but it is also the largest city in Scandinavia with a population of over 1.5 million. Officially founded in 1167 as a small fishing village, the name Kobenhavn signifies 'port of tradesmen' and aptly describes the bustling port city.
