AIFS Study Abroad in Rome, Italy
Italy
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: August - May (Academic Year), August - December (Fall Semester), January - May (Spring Semester)
Description:
Rome, the Eternal City with 2700 years of history, is unique in both Italy and the world. It is impossible not to be amazed and impressed by its classical heritage from ancient monuments such as the Colosseum and the Roman Forum to the Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque churches and palaces, built just a handful of centuries ago. With a population of almost three million, Rome is now a dynamic, modern city with fascinating snapshots of history around every corner. Rome is also ideally positioned for exploring a country with one of Europes richest pasts and some of its most beautiful scenery. AIFS students take courses offered by Richmond, The American International University in London, a U.S.-accredited university. Courses are taught in English in art history, communications, economics, history, international relations, literature, marketing, philosophy, political science and religion. All students take Italian language. Internships arevavailable in international business and social science. AIFS program fees include the basics and the extras: tuition, housing in apartments or an Italian home, meal vouchers, cultural activities and excursions, services of a Resident Director, trips to Venice, Naples, and Pompeii, and more.
Highlights:
Students often stand in awe upon their first encounter with the ancient ruins of the Roman Colosseum, still standing high above the busy city of Rome. A three-week orientation in Florence exposes students to Italian language and culture. Courses on Italian history, art and music are popular among AIFS students. A 3-day London visit and trips to Naples, Pompeii, and Venice are included in the program fees. Italian families willingly host students during their stay abroad, or students may also opt to live in apartments. Vatican City, the world's smallest independent country is always a popular sight visited by students. Internships and independent study are available, as well as studio art courses in drawing, painting, and photography.
