The Medieval World in Europe
Description:
Please join this exciting summer course! The University of Arizona's own Distinguished Prof. Albrecht Classen, an expert in Medieval Studies and the Renaissance, will lead his sixth educational tour through Europe. This program takes students to sites which still reflect the structural, social, cultural and political impact of the Middle Ages on Europe. Program participants are welcome from all academic disciplines. The diverse backgrounds of each student add unique perspectives and rich educational opportunities to this wonderful study abroad program. Students are expected to actively participate in classes, read the textbook, and write critical journal entries daily, reflecting upon their reading and experiences within the medieval sites. Students are encouraged to correlate their learning with the curriculum in their degree majors

The 2009 program cities tentatively include: IN SPAIN: * Madrid * Salamanca * Leon - San Sebastian IN FRANCE: * Carcassonne * Autun * Vezelay * Metz * Strassburg/Colmar IN GERMANY: * Constance * Landshut * Munich IN SWITZERLAND: * Schaffhausen * Montreux/Chillon IN ITALY: * Asti * Lucca * Spoleto * Orvieto * Urbino * Ferrara IN AUSTRIA: * Friesach Housing: Students will stay in typically 3 star hotel rooms (double or triple occupancy). The program will use primarily tour bus transportation, which will allow maximum comfort and mobility for the program participants.
