Description: The primary purpose of this program is to provide participants an opportunity to personally experience the visual culture of one of the most celebrated cities in the history of Western civilization. Through the special topics course and optional independent studies course, the program is designed to give students an overview and a deeper understanding of the development of Western civilization through intense focus on one of its most important cities. In doing so, we will explore Rome through on-site study of its architecture, as well as several museum visits designed to offer students an incomparable opportunity to confront and analyze great works of sculpture and painting in person.

Rome Eternal: Constancy and Change

Highlights: We will spend our class hours in the Coliseum, Roman forum, Imperial/Fora, Palatine Imperial Palace, Imperial Thermae, Domus Aurea, Eur, St. Peters, Santa Maria Maggiore, Il Gesu, and several other important locales. In addition, we will hold session in Rome's famous museums, such as the Vatican, Museo Nazionale, Villa Giulia, Museo Borghese, Museo della Civilta Romana, etc. Finally, we will include optional group trips to the ancient Roman seaport of Ostia, Palestrina, and the Campania to visit the Museo Nazionale Archeologico in Naples, as well as the fameous ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

- Hotel accommodations and two meals total while the group is in Italy

- Admission fees to program-related cultural and historical sites visited as part of the daily schedule
