Additionally, intensive six-hour language courses will be offered at both beginning (101/102) and intermediate (201/202) levels. In the summer of 2010, the Kentucky Institute for International Studies will sponsor a program in Mexico intended for seminarians and religious leaders. Note: All students will be required to take a minimum of four regularly-scheduled courses (12 credit hours) and may take five courses (15 hours). Qualified students may take courses from both the Spanish Language and Honors/Humanities Options.
Highlights:
The site of the program, Morelia, is the capital of the province of Michoacan and a showcase of Spanish colonial architecture. For both linguistic and cultural reasons, Morelia is an ideal location. Equidistant from Mexico City and Guadalajara, Morelia is located in the middle of one of Mexico's richest craft regions. It is also the home of four universities and has all the benefits of a modern city while preserving its traditions. Because Morelia is relatively undiscovered by tourists, students can study and learn Spanish here while rarely encountering other Americans. Moreover, Morelia is a clean city and is easily manageable on foot or via the extensive, accessible and inexpensive system of public transportation. Because it is a university city, there are lively and varied cultural activities. Students are welcomed in Morelia, and life there is low-cost and low-stress.
