interstudy: University of Limerick
Ireland
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Late September - Middle January / Early February - Late May
Description:
The University of Limerick (UL) is situated on a beautifully landscaped campus on the banks of the river Shannon three miles from the Limerick city center. As the centerpiece of Ireland's National Technological Park (one of the nation's premier business locations), the University's central purpose is to provide education and related research with relevance to the practical world. To this end, the University offers courses from its six constituent colleges: Humanities, Business, Engineering, Education, Science and Information Electronics. UL offers courses in a great variety of subject areas and is particularly well recognized for its reputation in European Studies, Irish Studies, Education, Engineering, Science, Equine Science, and Business Studies. The number of students visiting from overseas has grown in recent years, and these students, such as those on the interstudy program, are fully integrated into the student body, following the same lectures, seminars, tutorials and exams as Irish students. Limerick is a thriving modern city, the third largest in Ireland. Founded as a Viking fortress in the 10th Century, reminders of Limericks long history include the 12th Century King John's castle, the medieval precinct, and St. Mary's cathedral. Limerick has a sizeable student population and offers much to the visiting student by way of historical, artistic and cultural activities. There is a lively pub music scene catering for all tastes, from Irish Traditional Music to Heavy Metal and Jazz. Limerick is also an ideal location for those wanting to explore more of Ireland. Galway, Clare, Cork, Tipperary and Kerry are all close enough for a day's excursion and Limerick is just 16 miles from Shannon International Airport.
