Description: Academic Year Abroad: An international program for the global-thinking, adventurous student. This program has been specifically designed for incoming out-of-state Freshman to Florida State University who want to start their academic career in global way.

Florida State University's new Academic Year Abroad (AYA) Program in Florence, Italy allows students to complete the first twelve months of their FSU careers studying abroad with our International Programs. The incentives for taking advantage of this opportunity are extraordinary and compelling.

Florence, Italy
Building on almost 40 years of experience in Florence, FSU's study center is located in the Alessandri urban palace--just a short walk from the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio, Accademia and the Uffizi Gallery. The location, curriculum and outstanding faculty provide students with unparalleled opportunities to explore Renaissance giants Dante, da Vinci, de Medici, Galileo and Michaelangelo.

Highlights: Degree Progression for Almost All Majors
We place great emphasis on ensuring progress toward graduation will not be impeded by participating in this program. The classes offered meet requirements of the Liberal Studies Program, many minors, and first year prerequisites for almost any major. We strongly encourage students to declare one of the exploratory majors, regardless of site (there are four exploratory majors: Communication; Human Services & Social Sciences; Creative Arts, Humanities & Letters; Science, Technology & Engineering; and Education & Teaching.) We also offer classes required for students who are "Business, not formally admitted" majors. This program also meets the summer residency requirements for all FSU students.

Academic Benefits
Other academic benefits include small classes, personal attention from your faculty members, and courses which incorporate local academic, historical, and cultural resources into the fabric of student learning.

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers
Upon completing twelve months of international study on one of the designated programs, participants will receive tuition waivers which will cover the out-of-state portion of tuition for the remainder of their first undergraduate degree at FSU in Tallahassee. Spread across a typical four year degree program, this could represent a savings of USD40,000 for the European options and USD55,000 for the Panamanian option! This arrangement is contingent upon the student remaining in good academic and judicial standing throughout their FSU career. Students must attend consecutive semesters without interruption, progressing toward their degree completion, and staying "on map".
