Description: Pompeu Fabra University (Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Catalán) was established by the Catalonian Parliament in 1990, inspired by the principles of freedom, democracy, justice, equality, independence and plurality. From its beginnings, this young academic institution has set itself two main objectives: to train professionals and citizens who are responsible and committed to civic values, and to contribute towards the development of research. The university is named after Pompeu Fabra, the man who laid down the standards of the modern Catalan language.

Upper level students can study Spanish language, Hispanic studies, and participate in classes with native Spanish speakers in this special program.

Highlights: Barcelona (pop. 1,600,000): a city of contradictions; old and new intertwined, beautiful yet industrial, traditional and avant-garde. Located in the northeastern region of Catalunya, it is bordered by France to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. Barcelona is the largest province (and city) in the region and was once a major site of power, industrialism, and art in southern Europe. Barcelona is an incredible destination for study abroad. It is here that the student can learn and observe the beauty, history, and unique culture of the region of Catalunya while learning Spanish!
