KIIS Italy Program
Italy
Term: Summer
Dates: June 9 to July 12
Description:
The KIIS program in Italy is a five-week program which begins in Rome, where the group will spend the first week. The program then moves to Florence by bus, with an afternoon stopover in Tarquinia, where students will admire the outstanding collection of Etruscan objects and frescoes from Tarquinia's necropolis.
Highlights:
The initial exposure to Rome will give students the opportunity to observe firsthand the diverse layers of italy's cultural and artistic history-from the Etruscan, to the classical, through to the Renaissance and modern times. This first encounter with Rome's multi-faceted treasures brings to light the significance of classical art as a source of inspiration for Renaissance and later artists. In Florence, students will have the opportunity to visit the most famous museums and sites in Italy's Renaissance capital-the Uffizi gallery, the Bargello, Dante's house, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti and many others. Further, the proximity of the train and bus stations to the center of town renders day or weekend excursions to cities like Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Cortona and San Gimignano very accessible.
