University of Essex's Mission Statement: In 1964 the Queen granted a Royal Charter constituting and founding the University.
It is one of the UK's leading academic institutions and has an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. The University has 19 departments spanning the Humanities, Law & Management, Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering.
Special strengths include Sociology, Politics, Economics, and Art History. The University is on a green campus in historic Colchester, which is one hour from London by train.
