France
- Other Cities in France:
Arles
Term: Summer
Description:
This charming Provençal town is famous for its beautiful architecture including its Roman theater and arena, its 2000 year history, and its association with van Gogh, Gaugin, Cézanne, and Picasso. Arles, situated in the heart of Provence and close to Avignon, Marseille, and Nîmes, benefits from a beautiful climate, close proximity to the Mediterranean and many dance, music, theater, and folklore festivals throughout the summer months. In cooperation with Northwestern University, the IES Abroad Arles program offers two distinct academic programs: * The intermediate program offers students with one year of university level French to take an intensive 7-credit French course that covers an entire year of French over the course of six weeks. * The advanced program offers students a menu of interdisciplinary courses taught in French in French Language, Cultural/Francophone Studies, Photography and Theater. Cultural excursions throughout Provence will be an integral part of the program. This program is for students who have taken four or more semesters of French. Classes are scheduled from Monday through Thursday, and Friday is reserved for mandatory field study activities or for excursions that are organized and sponsored by IES Abroad.
Highlights:
* Enroll in a 7-credit intensive French language course for intermediate-level students or an advanced-level program offering courses in advanced French Grammar, French Theater, Photography, Translation, and Cultural Studies. * Participate in field trips and cultural excursions to important sites in Provence. * Stay in rooms in a charming hotel in the center of Arles or live with a local host family. * Experience local culture with four IES Abroad sponsored lunches in local restaurants each week.
