IES Abroad: Summer in Rome, Italy
Italy
Term: Summer
Description:
Walking in Rome is a constant voyage of discovery. Where else can you find ancient fountains a step away from Visigothic churches and Renaissance palaces? The Colosseum, Pantheon, Catacombs, Castello Sant' Angelo, St. Peter's, and the Sistine Chapel are just a few of Rome's treasures. While the past is inescapable in Rome, the contemporary city is a vibrant, bustling metropolis of 3 million people. As the seat of the Italian government, Rome is where to go to learn all of the complexities of Italian politics. Modern Rome is a center for the arts, including cinema, theater, opera, and classical music. Whether you are spending the evening enjoying Rome's lively nightlife, sitting down to a bountiful Roman dinner, or attending a football (soccer) match of one of the city's two world-class soccer teams, there is something for everyone in this fascinating city. Above all, Rome is a city of open, friendly, and welcoming people. The IES Abroad Rome summer program is designed primarily for students with little or no Italian who are interested in studying Italian Language, Art History, Political Science or Cultural Studies in an Italian atmosphere in Rome. The IES Abroad Rome Summer program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced level language courses designed to give students the opportunity to begin Italian language studies or improve existing Italian language skills, while immersing themselves in Italian culture and civilization. All students enroll in one language course (3 credits) and one English-taught area studies course (3 credits) for a total of 6 credits for the summer. The summer program is an ideal pre-session for the IES Abroad Rome fall and academic year programs.
