Arcadia University: Study at the Accademia Italiana, Florence
Italy
Term: Fall, Spring
Dates: Sept-Dec /Jan-May
Description:
The Accademia Italiana is located directly across from the famous Pitti Palace in Florence's Oltrarno district, just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, Galleria degli Uffizi, numerous art galleries, fashion boutiques and monuments of international acclaim. Florence is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and you may find Florentines are fiercely and justifiably proud of their place in history. You do not need to speak Italian to attend the Accademia Italiana. You will take four 3-credit courses per semester, plus Italian language for 4 credits. In addition to the language course, there is a wide range of courses to choose from, many of which are taught both in Italian and English. Many of these courses provide deep insights into Italian culture and focus on the unique history and traditions of Florence and Tuscany. Art and design courses are open to all students. In these courses you will be integrated with Italian and other international students. If you have no background in these areas, you may enroll in beginning-level courses. Although most introductory art and design (300 level and below) courses are taught in Italian, these courses either have instructors who speak English or assistants who can facilitate communication, so eligibility is not contingent upon your proficiency in Italian. Almost all Arcadia program students consistently take these courses and do extremely well. Credits Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following hours of credit. * Fall and spring semester: 16 credits. * Academic year: 32 credits. Admission Requirements GPA Requirements: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.
