CET Crossroads of Islam, Judaism and Christianity in Avila, Spain
Spain
Term: Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: Fall- Mid September to Late December, Spring- Late January to Mid May, Summer- Mid June to Mid August
Description:
There are always lessons to be learned in studying the past. For this reason, CET has created a framework for students to explore the meeting of three cultures: Islam, Christianity and Judaism, and how their past and present coexistence shapes the people of Spain and their world-view. Now more than ever, it is imperative to understand the history of tolerance and intolerance, and how to work towards nurturing peace and long-term solutions to age-old tensions and misunderstandings. Once the historical foundation is laid, students will apply the lessons learned to the modern context, and enhance their learning experience with experiential study trips to cities and villages near Avila, cities in Andalucia and, finally, Morocco.
Highlights:
* Located in the beautiful walled city of Avila, an UNESCO World Heritage City * Traveling seminars to cities in Andulcia and Morocco * Community service and service internships with local volunteer groups * Full-time resident director in Avila * Accommodation for two weeks with Spanish family, followed by apartment housing with a Spanish roommate
