Established in 1389, the Universite Stendhal - Grenoble III is one of the oldest in Europe. A longtime educational institution for French students, the department of the university for foreign students was established in 1896. With over 100 years of history and quality of education, the Centre Universitaire d'Etudes Francaises (CUEF) - (The University Centre for French Studies) has welcomed foreign students from around the world. Vigdis Finbogadottir and Richard von Weizacker - the former presidents of Iceland and Germany, respectively -- have attended the CUEF, as has Masako Owada, the Princess of Japan. Students can choose from programs in Intensive Language, Language and Culture, and post graduate/continuing education summer programs for teachers. Semester, summer, year and intensive month terms are available. Students typically receive 14-18 credits for a semester; 5-6 credits for a summer or intensive month session.
