Language courses meet weekdays for two hours per day for a total of 120 classroom hours (semester). In addition to language courses, students will be enrolled in 20 hours of phonetics laboratory which compliment language courses. The two courses combine for a total of 140 contact hours which typically equate to 10 semester credits. The cultural component of the program is fulfilled by lectures with a focus on literature, arts, and economic and social problems in France. For the successful completion of the cultural lecture series, students may receive an additional 3 semester credits. Students typically receive 4 units for the four-week summer intensive language program.
Highlights:
As one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world, the Sorbonne has a long and proud history of excellence. Originally founded in 1253 as a school of theology, today the Sorbonne offers courses in nearly every discipline and is spread across several campuses. GSE students will attend courses at the Sorbonne's central campus offered by the Cours de Civilisation Francaise de la Sorbonne. For over seven centuries the Sorbonne's central campus has stood in the same location of the Latin Quarter, within short walking distance from the Seine River, the famed Notre Dame Cathedral, and hundreds of other breath taking sights. This lively area is home to many local and international students and is full of bustling cafes, bars, and restaurants.
