American Junior Year at Heidelberg University

  Germany
    Heidelberg

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: Sep to mid-July, Sep to mid-Dec, March to mid-July

Description: During your studies at the University of Heidelberg -- Germany's oldest university -- you will develop a more independent and self-reliant attitude towards learning. You will gain a new perspective on your major field of studies and will broaden your understanding of European history and cultures. Since all courses are taught in German, your language proficiency will increase rapidly.

You can study with the American Junior Year at Heidelberg program for a full academic year, for just one semester, or for the 6-week Heidelberg at Heidelberg summer school. The Resident Director and Associate Director will help you select courses which reflect your interests and which fulfill the requirements of your home campus.

In the AJY study center, conveniently located on University Square in the heart of the old city, you can relax with friends between classes, watch television, read the newspapers, use computers for email, term papers, or homework assignments -- everthing, of course, auf Deutsch!

Heidelberg is one of Germany's most beautiful cities. For centuries, Heidelberg's romantic charm has attracted admirers from all over the world. It is also the classic German student city -- bustling with a wide range of cultural activities such as theater, dance, and music and all types of shops, student pubs, and sports facilities.

In Heidelberg, you will:

- Live in a single room in a dorm or shared apartment alongside German and international students
- Meet regularly with your German language partner
- Participate in one or more sports, music, volunteer or other community organizations
