Recognized as England's best new university in 2001 and rated best new university for overall quality, range, and quantity of research, the University of Sunderland is a great institution for Study Abroad students. The university originally began as a municipal training college in 1901 and in 1969 became Sunderland Polytechnic. Established as a new university in 1992, Sunderland has quickly gained the notoriety and respect it deserves. Now a university of 15,000 students, the University of Sunderland has a full compliment of academic areas with an English rating of 'excellent' in the areas of Media Studies, Nursing, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, and Physiology.
Highlights:
Undergraduate housing at the University of Sunderland consists of single study rooms with shared kitchen and lounge facilities. Each residence hall is located 15 minutes from the city center and all halls have laundry facilities available. A Senior Resident Tutor and a team of Study Tutors, very similar to many American university's Residence Assistants (RA's) will be on hand to help you settle in. All rooms come with storage facilities, a desk, a chair, a bed, a lamp, bookshelves, and a washbasin. The lounge areas will have easy chairs and a connection point for a TV. Kitchen areas come with microwave, electric cooker, refrigerator/freezer, toaster, and kettle. A vacuum cleaner, iron, and ironing board are also provided.
