The University of Limerick provides a Summer School in Irish Studies as part of their International Education program. Students can take one of four offered courses in Irish culture during the summer session at the University of Limerick: Irish Life and Literature, Ireland: Gateway to Europe, Visual Culture in Ireland 1400-1950, and Between Boston and Berlin. In addition to taking one of these three courses, participants will go on three all day excursions. The first will be to Limerick city and its environs, the second will be to Dublin, and the third will be to West Ireland. Breakfast and lunch will be provided every day, and airport transfer to and from Shannon International Airport to the University of Limerick is included in the cost.
Highlights:
Students are generally in class from 9:30 - 4:30 three to four days per week. There will be one full day excursion each week and at least 2 "free" days each week as well. All four courses taught at the university will be at '300' level and are taught by University of Limerick professors. The first course, Irish Life and Literature articulates as an Outer Core Humanities, while Ireland: Gateway to Europe articulates as either an Outer Core Humanities or Social Science. Between Boston and Berlin articulates as an Outer Core Social Science, and finally, Visual Culture in Ireland has yet to be articulated. Each course has a preparatory reading list so that all students taking the courses will be on similar ground.
