Explore the dynamics of Latin America through a camera lens with the aid of Bolivia's leading documentary producers. Join award-winning documentary producer Ismael Saavedera in a hands-on summer program designed for students interested in video and media production, within the Latin American context. In the last portion of the session, students will develop the skills to produce a video or media project on a topic of their choice, creating a tangible product to express their understanding of the Latin American culture. Ethnographic documentary filmmaking, is a strong focus, supported by classes in production and hands-on editing in our program's own media laboratory. Partnering with a Bolivian film student in producing video footage may be possible for those looking for intercultural production experience. Prerequisites: Two recent semesters of college-level Spanish or equivalent, as assessed by SIT. Although not a requirement, a background in media production, Latin American Studies, development studies, or cultural or visual anthropology is recommended.
Highlights:
Educational excursions may include La Paz, Lake Titicaca, and several rural highland agricultural villages.
