Ecuador
Term: Fall, Spring
Description:
Through course work, family life, community activities, and cultural experiences, the Duke in the Andes program based in Quito, Ecuador seeks to instill in students a deeper knowledge of Ecuador and the Andean region. The academic and cultural content of the program emphasize the diversity of history and knowledge among the many Andean cultures and environments. The program affords students the opportunity to enroll in a consortium of local universities, choose from specialized curricula, work with a culturally diverse faculty, and participate in a variety of community-based, service learning experiences.
Highlights:

In addition to the mandatory core seminar, students choose their remaining courses from selected regular course offerings at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana.Planned excursions will take students to areas such as the Galapagos Islands, Otavalo, the Amazon region and the Esmeraldas region (the coast).
